Starboard Cottage

The house is in a great location – at the top of the bank in Runswick Bay. You can join the Cleveland Path just down from the house. We did a lovely walk into Staithes and back. The house itself is very comfortable. Three great bedrooms, a big family bathroom plus a downstairs shower room with awesome water pressure. A huge garden – great for the evenings after a day of exploring North Yorkshire. A lovely and well equipped open plan kitchen and living space. Check in was easy. We had one question during our stay and getting in touch with Jane was really easy. In the cottage there is a really helpful visitors guide which has all the info you might need (wifi codes, local restaurants etc). I would definitely stay here again. April 2022

This property is perfectly located for the beach, walking and visiting the surrounding area as it’s close to bus stops and Cleveland way. The large garden is perfect for family entertainment! And the open plan living space is very sociable. A very comfortable stay. Will be back. April 2022

This cottage is amazing, we will have fond memories of Runswick Bay for a very long time and will be returning April 2022

What a beautiful house! The location is amazing! The bay at Runswick is just beautiful and it’s perfectly situated for day trips to lots of places. Being right on the doorstep of the Cleveland way is excellent. The house is even better than the pictures show. It had everything we needed and more. We were very lucky with the weather and we were able to make the most of the fantastic garden. We will definitely be visiting again! March 2022

Wonderful property, Calm, Cosy and very comfortable…we loved some of the décor so much we are going to recreate in our own home…  March 2022

Great house, fabulous location with the bonus of driveway parking(rare in Runswick). We will definitely return!   March 2022

Jane’s beautiful house has all the ingredients that make a holiday perfect. A beautiful home, a wonderful fire, all the little touches, a wonderful location, two or three good pubs nearby, a bus that picks you up and drops off virtually to the door… if you mix this with a lovely group of friends or family, it’s a winner. Thank you Jane, a memorable holiday for us all x  Feb 2022

We have had a lovely stay at Runswick Bay. Jane’s house is lovely – we were a party of 6 and there was plenty of room. The log burner was a real asset and made for cosy evenings, although the house was lovely and warm without it. The house is really well equipped and as it is at the top of the hill, above the bay, it is right on the bus route so great for access. We enjoyed day trips to Staithes and Whitby and enjoyed watching surfers and searching for fossils on the beach. We found the co-op in Staithes to be really useful (5 mins in the car) and the local pubs were lovely. Jane was a great host who responded really quickly and helpfully to our enquiry and subsequent queries. January 2022

This is a gorgeous, cosy and brilliantly equipped house in a fantastic location. The house has everything you need – super comfortable, beautifully decorated and a massive garden with play equipment. It’s at the top of the hill that heads down to Runswick Bay which is a fabulous beach. Pretty much next door is the Runswick Bay Hotel which serves lovely food. We walked along the Cleveland Way to Staithes for lunch at the Cod and Lobster – took about 1hr 40 with a ten year old and mostly flat. Bus back is the X4. Would highly recommend this house for a holiday on the North Yorkshire coast January 2022

Had a wonderful stay at Starboard cottage. It was all we’d hoped for and more in terms of comfort and location. Communication with Jane was spot on throughout. Will definitely be returning! January 2022

A beautiful place to stay with real attention to detail. Warm , quiet, comfortable and really well equipped. And in a great setting with lots of fantastic fish restaurants nearby We so enjoyed our weekend here, and will be back again. Probably the best Airbnb we’ve stayed in ! December 2021

Amazing place to stay with the lovely beach not too far away. All the amenities we needed were there and we had a great stay and will definitely be back. December 2021

We fell in love with Starboard cottage. Jane was a great host and communication was easy. It’s perfectly equipped for families – from the trampoline in the garden, night lights in the bedrooms and toddler cutlery in the kitchen. Already planning when we can return! November 2021

Absolutely stunning property in a beautiful setting. Everything you could possibly need. Jane was the perfect host from start to finish October 2021

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Starboard Cottage. The cottage is immaculately and lovingly presented, very well equipped, spacious and very comfortable. It’s location is ideal for exploring the North Yorkshire Coast. The Cleveland Way and beautiful beaches of Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Staithes, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Whitby are all within easy reach. Thank you Jane for sharing your beautiful home, it’s perfect. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend a stay here. September 2021

Beautiful spacious cottage situated on a nice residential street close to Runswick Bay beach. This airbnb is perfect for a coastal getaway and base to explore the Yorkshire coastline, with the Cleveland Way walking trail literally on your doorstep. The cottage is even bigger than the pictures depicted here and had so much character and attention to detail, we loved it!! Jane was a wonderful host and you can see how much thought, joy and care goes into running this airbnb. Would return again and again, was lovely! May 2021

‘A delightful cottage in a stunning location. Well equipped with beautiful finishing touches. A real home from home. Jane is a fabulous host.’ May 2021

‘We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely, clean and comfortable property, with its great garden, and just a few minutes walk down into Runswick Bay. Jane was very easy to communicate with and very helpful.’ May 2021

‘Great house, garden and location. Appreciated the communication and welcome pack and little extras in the house and garden made it really special!!’ April 2021

‘The house was lovely and it was a real privilege to stay in it. Everything was pristine and love the kitchen and bathrooms, all superb quality. We had family over from NZ and one of them does real estate for a living…. she thought your kitchen was wow! My son (he’s 9) enjoyed playing in the garden and flying his kite on Runswick Bay.’ June 19

‘We had an incredible weekend at Jane’s house. The house is absolutely stunning! When we walked into the open plan kitchen/living room area we were blown away but how beautifully decorated and equipped it was. It was very cosy and warm, and had everything we needed. I got in touch with Jane to ask if she could put some decorations out for a surprise for my friend’s birthday. She was more than happy to help and made it a very special arrival. There were thoughtful welcome treats left too. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!’ Oct 2020

‘What a beautiful home. Fantastic indoor and outdoor spaces for our family. I would highly recommend this place to any families who want both space outside with a great location and a cosy and comfortable place inside if the weather isn’t great.’ Dec 2019

‘An immaculately presented and generously appointed homely home all to a high standard, especially the kitchen which is extremely well-equipped and very pleasant to cook in. The kids loved the trampoline and the host arranged a high chair and travel cot which lightened our travel load. In a lovely quiet spot away from the old town but just a (steep) descent down to the picturesque enclosed bay. No niggles whatsoever, all in all highly recommended.’ March 2020

Crabapple Cottage

Fab little dog friendly cottage. Secure private garden with bbq, large trampoline and seating areas. Private parking in front of cottage. Great location in village of Hinderwell with 2 pubs, tearooms, chip shop and butchers on your doorstep (limited opening so check in advance). Fave local spot was port mulgrave (read up on the history!). Access is steep and assisted by a rope but more than worth it. We had an afternoon here with the beach to ourselves. Stones throw from Cleveland way and nice walk to staithes/runswick/Robin hoods bay. We will definitely look to return. Great communication with host and loved the thoughtful little touches. Highly recommended!  May 2022

Had a lovely Easter weekend. Cosy cottage, with garden and BBQ for enjoying the sunshine. Good location – nice and quiet but within walking distance of Runswick Bay. Good fish and chips in the village. We travelled with our baby and the cottage worked well for her too. April 2022

Fantastic location for visiting some real gems. Brilliant cottage and garden, the trampoline was a real bonus to tire the kids out when we needed some time to switch off. Recommend staying here as I would book again without hesitation April 2022

Great location for exploring this beautiful area of Yorkshire. The cottage is tastefully decorated and well equipped. Ideal for a small family. April 2022

Lovely cosy cottage perfect for two night break for 4 adults. We felt we had enough space and used the sofa bed in the living room also. Jane was very helpful with the synthetic bedding we needed and had provided everything including extras . Great location for exploring surrounding area. April 2022

Jane’s cottage is simply wonderful and the perfect base for exploring the beautiful local area. The perfect home away from home and an amazing host- we can’t wait to visit again March 2022

A lovely cosy cottage in a superb location. Our 2nd stay and it was perfect! March 2022

We have just come back from a fabulous stay at Crabtree Cottage and would definitely return again! The Cottage is in a excellent location you are in walking distance of so many things but have the luxury of both parking and a very generous garden. We stayed with our two children aged 13 & 11yrs they both thought the place was great and enjoyed using the trampoline. The place has beautiful decor and lots of little touches it was exceptionally clean and boasts a lovely log fire which was perfect after blustery walks along the beach. Literally outside your door you are a short stroll of two pubs, a butchers and a chip shop (haven’t tried the chips wasn’t opened for our stay) Co op is about 1 mile away for any essential you might need.  Feb 2022
Lovely cottage so nicely decorated and with everything you need plus lovely extra treats made this stay special. Ideally placed for visiting the beaches and towns along the coast in a nice village on an excellent bus route. Unfortunately the Badger Hounds pub closed at short notice after we had booked so we didn’t get to eat there but the fish and chips from across the road were lovely! Jane’s communication was excellent as is this cottage!  Feb 2022
We have stayed in a lot of Airbnbs, all top rated ones and this one was one of the best. Beautifully decorated, thoughtfully equipped and lots of generous touches. Loved the luxury bedding. Always a little nervous when we stay in dog friendly places because my daughter has allergies but Janes place was immaculately clean. Very well located too and lovely garden. Feb 2022
Another great stay at the cottage. Ideal for exploring the area. Still finding new places after 6 years of staying in the area. Would not stay anywhere else now. 20 mins walk Runswick and Staithes. Cosy cottage with quality little touches. Unfortunately the Badger and Hounds was closed but found the Fox and Hounds in Goldsburough which was really good. Jan 2022
A perfectly situated cosy cottage. Very easy access to the Cleveland Way and also on a reliable and regular bus route which runs between the villages. You don’t really need to use a car once you arrive. The cottage itself is in a peaceful location and we didn’t hear any noise at all. The garden is enclosed and quite long with a large trampoline at the top. Everything is good quality with all you need to self cater. Having said that there are two pubs and a good fish and chip shop a couple of minutes walk away. The village butcher sells bread, milk, newspapers and many other provisions. The cottage is very clean and has an efficient wood burning stove to compliment the central heating. The online description is accurate and Jane communicates well. Highly recommended and we hope to return when we walk another section of the Cleveland Way. Jan 2022
Lovely, clean, well stocked cottage. We didn’t want for anything. Jane was extremely helpful and generous host. Dec 2021
We have recently had a lovely stay at Crabapple Cottage. It had everything we needed and more. Dorothy the dog loved the big garden at the back of the property, it was nice to know that she was safe and able to enjoy it. Comfy beds, cosy and warm, treats left by the host and a delicious meal at the local pub. Overall, an excellent experience and we will definitely return and recommend to friends. Thanks again! Dec 2021
We had a lovely stay here despite the bad weather all weekend! The cottage had everything we needed and the log burner made it very cosy (especially when it snowed!) the location is great for the coast and there’s a long, enclosed garden, great for dogs. We’d love to come back again sometime. Nov 2021

‘Jane’s cottage is utterly dreamy and Jane is a fabulous superhost. I made a mistake with dates booked and left some items behind, and she dealt with both (I’m sure quite annoying) issues fantastically. The cottage is wonderfully located between Runswick Bay and Staithes, so driveable to lots of other coastal treats. It is decorated in a laidback neutral boutique style and is cosy and comfortable. It is exceptionally well equipped, and there are a few welcome treats to greet you in the fridge. The garden is wonderful; long and lush green with field views at the end. The kids loved the trampoline and we used the gas BBQ, lovely rattan furniture and picnic bench several times. The neighbours were friendly and full of advice re beaches and shop opening hours etc. There’s a Co-op in next village and a few pubs, chippy and butchers in Hinderwell. We will be back. Thank you, again Jane. A week here was such a tonic after lockdown craziness. 10/10’ June 2021

“We had a lovely week at Crabapple Cottage. It’s a cosy and comfortable house, very well kitted out with everything we needed in the kitchen, tasteful decor and lots of little touches like welcome drinks, a packet of nice biscuits, a bluetooth speaker and extra extension leads. The cottage was clean, bed was comfy, garden huge with two seating areas and a trampoline(!). 2 mins walk to a great pub with food the Badger Hounds and an easy 1 mile walk down to the gorgeous beach at Runswick. Easy drive to Sandsend/Whitby. Also easy to get the bus to Whitby or Stathes in the other direction (including evening buses). Would recommend this cottage and Hinderwell for a relaxing base to explore the area!” May 2021

‘It was a total pleasure to stay at the beautiful quaint cottage. The garden was bigger than I expected. It was sparkling clean, excellent quality bedding & furnishings. We loved the log burning stove, a real treat for us. We will return. May 2021

A perfect location within 30 min drive of Robin Hoods Bay/Whitby and other closer bays within walking distance. Great enclosed garden for the pooch and sundowners in the summer. The cottage itself had everything we needed and the fire was well used after a wet coastal walk!! May 2021

‘This is a lovely cottage in a great location. Our stay was very comfortable and helped by magnificent weather. The welcome, facilities (including the garden) and information from Jane all excellent. There is plenty of good walking, not just along the well-worn coastal path but also inland along the many footpaths from Hinderwell. (The Cicerone guide has good suggestions). Excellent butchers and fish and chips in the village and cafe at Runswick Bay. Walking from the door and good public transport links along the coast meant that we didn’t need to use the car during our stay. Would recommend.’ April 2021
