I woke up this morning without an alarm—the soft light filtering through the curtains was the only nudge I needed. It’s a far cry from the jarring buzz of my phone back home. I pulled them back and just stood there for a moment, honestly a bit stunned. From up here, Runswick Bay looks like something straight out of a storybook.
The whole place was bathed in these incredible golden dawn hues, with the bay painted in soft oranges and creams. It’s the kind of view that instantly makes you forget how tired you were from the drive up. I just sat there with my first coffee, watching time slow down.
A Village Waking Up
As the sun climbed higher, the little village clinging to the hillside started to stir. Those classic red-tiled roofs, which were in deep shadow ten minutes ago, started to gleam in the light. There were these little wisps of sea mist dancing between the cottages—it felt almost mysterious, like I’d stumbled onto a movie set.
The water was a total mirror. The reflection of the village was so perfect it looked doubled. Down on the shore, the boats were lined up neatly, just waiting for the tide so they could head out into the blue. It’s so incredibly peaceful; it’s exactly the “restorative” break I was hoping for.
That First Breath of Sea Air
I finally grabbed my jumper and stepped outside. The air hit me – crisp, clean, and smelling deeply of the salt and the sea. It’s invigorating. There’s a stillness here that you just don’t get in the city, broken only by the waves lapping at the shore and the odd seagull overhead.
Standing there, looking out at the sheer scale of the North Yorkshire cliffs, everything else just felt… smaller. The rush of everyday life feels miles away. It’s more than just a nice holiday view; it’s one of those rare places that actually makes you feel alive. I think I’m going to like it here.
