About Crabapple Cottage

This charming semi-detached cottage is set back from the main road in Hinderwell within a small courtyard and moments away from the local pub. Ideal for a small family this cottage is in a fantastic location for discovering the nearby coastal towns and villages.

You enter into the delightful sitting room which is a very comfortable space with the benefit of a wood-burning stove to relax in front of in the evening. The sofa in the cosy lounge opens into a small double sofa bed suitable for a fifth guest.

There is also a dining area where you can spread out the maps and plan the next day’s activities.

At the rear of the property is the kitchen which leads out to the long lawned garden featuring a gas BBQ and comfortable garden furniture. An ideal space to enjoy the evening air whilst you let the children and dogs enjoy the space which includes a large ‘springfree’ trampoline.

The bathroom completes the ground floor accommodation and upstairs are two cosy bedrooms, a king-size double and a bunk room with two full size single beds.

The rural village of Hinderwell is a fantastic location between Staithes and Runswick Bay. The X4 bus passes 50 yards from the house offering easy access to both seaside locations. The village is home to a great butchers selling locally reared meats and a selection of fresh fruit and veg along with other household essentials. The fish and chip shop is only a short stroll from the cottage along the main street.

Any less than 5* or a-maz-ing would be doing Jane and Crabapple Cottage a disservice. The neighbours were fabulous too. We had everything we could possibly want in the cottage and long garden, and more, including the trampoline 😄 Jane was super responsive to questions I raised even when she was out with a friend and immediately set to finding a solution to our mini problem. Settees and bed were very comfortable and our dog was immediately relaxed in the property which was also really important to us. So many places to visit nearby and lots to do, we could have spent way more time there. June 25

Just returned from a 4-night stay at Crabapple Cottage. We had a lovely stay – the cottage was beautiful, spotlessly clean and finished to a high standard. The welcome treats were a nice touch and the basket of towels for the dog was well thought of! We would definitely book again as the cottage was situated in a lovely quiet village just a couple of minutes drive from Runswick Bay beach, but also not too far away from Whitby and Scarborough for days out. Had an amazing stay at the cottage. Jane had thought of absolutely everything including some chilled drinks in the fridge and nibbles. There was even a little basket with towels for the dog so we could wipe his paws. My husband forgot his phone charger and just by chance we looked in a little cupboard and there were charges to use. The cottage was in a lovely location right next to a pub which we nipped in a couple of times. There is a fish and chip shop over the road too. We did some lovely coastal walks from the cottage, absolutely beautiful and walked into Staithes and Runswick Bay. We would highly recommend the cottage and thanks Jane for being understanding. Fantastic cottage with amazing garden for kids and dog alike. Lovely location, in easy driving distance to Whitby, Sandsend and Runswick Bay. Kids loved the bunk beds (as usual)…… Was also really touched by the lovely welcome surprises (won’t spoil the surprise for others). We will definitely stay again, probably in winter to make the most of of the log burner. Aug 25

Perfect base for some circular routes around Staithes, Runswick Bay and beyond. Short drive out to Robin Hood’s Bay. Helpful instructions and hassle free check in. Great garden for the dogs. Sept 25

Jane’s cottage is beautiful. Exactly like the photos. The decor, furnishings and soft furnishings are of the highest quality. Comfortable bed, great shower and fully equipped kitchen complete the package. The welcome goodies were greatly appreciated. We will definitely book for another short break. Sept 25

Really enjoyable few days on the East coast. Lovely cottage, exactly as described with great touches, particularly the trampoline!! I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a well placed cottage in the Whitby area. April 2025

Gorgeous cottage in peaceful location close to stunning beaches and countryside. Everything was in great condition with all we needed for a five-day break. Comfy beds, lovely finishing touches and the trampoline and garden for Easter egg hunting were a hit with the kids. Thanks for a wonderful stay! April 2025

What a lovely cottage! Our friends stayed last year and had given a fab recommendation so we decided to book and they weren’t wrong. Jane has made the place so cosy and beautiful inside. Perfect little touches including treats on arrival and a lovely log burner. We enjoyed the best few days by the coast. April 2025

A lovely place to stay with so much to do nearby! A lovely pub for great food within walking distance too! I messaged Jane a few times with various questions, and each time she was very helpful and quick to respond. we’d definitely come back again! April 2025

What a little gem this cottage is. The location is fab, and walkable to pubs and the beach. The cottage has a huge enclosed garden with a lovely decked area with seating and a trampoline which the kids loved. There was a lovely welcome hamper upon our arrival which went down a treat with all of us. Jane has thought of everything, the kitchen is really well equipped, logs for the log burner, magazines and games. And stuff for the dog too. Loads to do around the area, so the location is perfect. Don’t hesitate to book this place you won’t regret it! May 25

Fantastic long weekend at Crabapple Cottage. Beautiful weather meant we could utilise the massive garden to its full capacity. Loved the local cafe down the road too and the pub was literally next door. May 25
