About Starboard Cottage

This former Coastguard’s Cottage is located in the upper part of the village at Runswick Bay, a short walk to the beach and seconds away from the local pub.

Lovingly renovated to offer a high standard of contemporary accommodation whilst maintaining many original features the cottage makes the perfect base for families or friends to enjoy the area before returning to enjoy the excellent facilities the cottage offers.

The accommodation features an open plan kitchen/lounge area, bright and highly equipped, with solid oak island and breakfast bar. The comfortable seating, log burner and large Smart TV make a perfect area to sit and relax after a busy day exploring. The dining area features patio doors leading directly to the the large secure garden featuring seating, a gas BBQ and pizza oven,13ft ‘springfree’ trampoline, a perfect place to let the kids (or adults) run off some energy. There is also a downstairs shower room, accessible from the patio, ideal for washing those sandy toes after returning from the beach.

The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people between 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom features a king size bed (which can be split into two singles), wardrobe and storage whilst the second bedroom offers a standard double bed. The third bedroom boasts two single beds, comfortably accommodating two people.

The newly refurbished upstairs family bathroom features a large roll-top bath, separate walk in shower, large washbasin and toilet

The cottage offers free Wi-fi.

Great bus service to Whitby from almost outside the front door. Fantastic garden, especially for the dogs. We enjoyed a lovely walk from Sandsend to Whitby, but ensure you check the tide times. A spacious and comfy house, thank you for sharing your lovely home by the sea. We will be back! July 25

We ADORE coming here! Thank you so much Jane and for being such a generous host. The house and garden are fabulous, style and comfort in equal abundance. So many great places to eat in the area; The Magpie Cafe @ Whitby, The Fish Cottage @ Sandsend, Sea View Restaurant @ Saltburn, Marys @Sandsend, the list goes on and not to mention the ice cream, coffee and cakes at Tides cafe on the beach. We had a wonderful 2 nights at Starboard Cottage. The house was beautifully clean with everything you could need for a home-from-home stay. The Runswick Bay hotel (just next door) and They Royal Hotel (down near the bay) offered lovely food and a great atmosphere. We walked the coat path to Staithes and enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Cod and Lobster. Overall our trip to Runswick Bay was perfect and we would definitely return to Starboard Cottage. Sept 25

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the house and in Runswick Bay – only wish we could have stayed longer! Jane’s house is stylishly decorated, gorgeous main bathroom and handy downstairs shower room. Lovely touch from Jane to leave a selection of drinks and treats and the kitchen is stocked with everything you might need. We ate out both nights and really enjoyed the Cod and Lobster and the Ellerby Inn nearby. We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to return . Thanks Jane. July 25

Just had 4 nights at the cottage. Had a great time. It’s a lovely place with everything you could possibly need. The attention to detail is quite unique. Beds were very comfortable and spotless. The dogs absolutely loved the huge garden. We had a long drive to get there and felt relaxed as soon as we entered the cottage. It’s a beautiful part of the world and well worth a visit. June 25

A beautiful cottage positioned just above picturesque Runswick Bay with lovely surrounding countryside and coastal paths easy access to Whitby on local buses. We visited for 3 nights with my daughter and family . The cottage is perfect for children with a big open garden including a large trampoline which our grandson loved . Jane is a perfect host and the property wanted for nothing decorated and equipped to the highest of standards , one of the best we have stayed in . I would highly recommend this home from home . Runswick Bay is a little slice of heaven on the North Yorkshire coast, and with Starboard Cottage such a short walk, it makes for a perfect location. The cottage is very well-appointed, with a lovely kitchen and bathroom. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area and the welcome treats were a lovely surprise. Feb 25
